Adjusting water temp

Home  /  informational  /  Adjusting water temp

If your water doesn’t get warm enough, consider this: It may not be the water heater! Current US regulations require anti-scald devices to be installed in bathtubs and showers and code requires the maximum temperature to be set at 120deg Fahrenheit. So, in some cases, your faucet can be plenty hot, but your shower just doesn’t quite feel hot enough.

To test your water temperature just take a regular meat thermometer from your kitchen and hold it under running water.

If you need your faucets hotter, check your water heater! Your control valve probably looks like this:

It should be set somewhere around “hot”. A, B and C are generally hotter than you want to be. This setting can help with getting hot water to farther fixtures, but generally just shortens the lifespan of the water heater.

If you have a tankless water heater, you should be able to adjust the temperature using the up and down buttons on your control panel.

If you do find your shower or tub is too cold, there are adjustments that need to be made at the fixture itself. We can help you with this. Or, if you’re feeling handy, watch these videos:
