Inside the tank of your toilet is a simple mechanism that throws water into the toilet bowl to wash your waste away. Sometimes, there just isn’t quite enough power to move everything along. Here is one simple thing you can check to make sure your toilet is operating optimally.
- Take off the lid
- Check the water level
- There’s an easy adjustment to be made on most flush kits. More water in the tank means more flush power in the bowl, so increase the water level! your fingers or a screw driver can adjust the float. bring it up to add more water into the bowl.
3. on a canister flush, like the one pictured above, there’s a water line mark. make sure after you flush, the water refills to this line. If you have a flapper, there’s a smaller tube that should also have a mark for the water line, both are usually about 1/2″ below the edge of the tube.
If your toilet is operating properly, the tank should refill pretty swiftly. over time, the fill valve can slow down. It’s also important to make sure that the refill tube is placed correctly and firmly. sometimes these can come loose. They’re either fixed to the canister as shown below, or clipped to the top of the overflow tube.
These two simple checks can vastly affect the quality of your flush. The only other way to help move more water down your toilet is to just hold the handle down a little longer.
